ABCs of Recovery: Week One |
![]() | ABCs of Recovery (Addiction Behavior Control) Today is more than the beginning of your next challenge module; it is the beginning of a new agreement with yourself. Recovery is not about proving that you are perfect, it is about choosing, one moment at a time, to protect your future. Every urge you face is an opportunity to pause, breathe, and remind yourself that you are not powerless. You are learning how to respond differently, and that learning is strength. Controlling addictive behavior begins with noticing the small moments before old patterns take over. When a craving appears, you can slow the moment down: name what you are feeling, step away from the trigger, reach out to someone safe, drink water, take a walk, write down what you need, or repeat a simple promise such as, “I can get through the next ten minutes.” Small actions may feel ordinary, but repeated daily, they become the foundation of lasting change. |
There may be hard days, and those days do not erase your progress. Healing is rarely a straight line, and setbacks do not mean you have failed. They are signals to adjust your plan, ask for more support, and return to the choices that keep you safe. Speak to yourself with the same patience you would offer a friend, because shame is not a recovery plan, support, honesty, and persistence are. This challenge module is a daily commitment to becoming more present, more honest, and more in control of your life. You do not have to win the whole journey today. You only have to choose the next right step, then the next one after that. With support, structure, and courage, each day of recovery can become proof that your past does not have to decide your future. |
