Excuses I Use

Recognizing the excuses you use to justify your addiction is an important step toward honesty, accountability, and change. Excuses can make your harmful choices feel reasonable in the moment, such as telling yourself you are only doing it because you are stressed, because you deserve it, or because you can stop anytime, but they only keep you stuck in the same cycle.

When you begin to notice these patterns, you create space between the urge and the action, allowing you to question whether the excuse is helping you heal or helping the addiction continue. This awareness does not mean judging yourself harshly; it means being truthful enough to see what is really happening and brave enough to choose a healthier response.
