Signs of Addiction

The most obvious symptoms of addiction are changes in behavior and the person's impaired ability to maintain self-control and good judgement when it comes to finances, responsibilities, etc.

Knowing if a loved one is abusing drugs can be difficult to determine. Often times, people are afraid to confront their loved ones for fear that they will damage their relationship. However, saving someone's life is more important than risking hurt feelings.

The signs of drug abuse are different for each person and some people are really good at hiding their addiction.  If you suspect that a loved one is abusing drugs, don't wait until it's too late. Talk to them, seek professional help. Don't allow the addict, or others, to downplay how serious the situation is.

While some may be convinced they can kick it on their own, don't let them convince you they can change without outside help, no matter how they beg, promise, or plead.
