How I Stay Strong When I'm Triggered

Triggers can create intense cravings and pull you back toward old patterns, even after progress has been made. In those moments, strength does not mean pretending the urge is not there; it means pausing, recognizing what is happening, and choosing a healthy response such as breathing, reaching out for support, leaving a risky situation, or using coping skills learned in recovery.

Each time you get through a trigger without returning to substance use, you build confidence, self-control, and trust in your ability to stay sober or clean.

Over time, your choices strengthen recovery and show you that difficult situations and feelings can be faced without giving in to addiction.
