It takes unbelievable strength to fight and overcome an addiction. Not just the strength of an addict, but the strength of family, friends, and community to see it through. We know that support from loved ones and community leaders can make the difference between continued addiction or the road to recovery...So, we're Standing Up to show our support! There are very few people who haven't been affected by the monster of addiction. Addiction is like a tsunami that takes out everyone in its way and leaves behind a path of destruction. Those suffering from addiction know they've caused a lot of pain and, too many times, they believe they can never make things right. So, their shame prevents them from reaching out for help. It’s important for family, friends, and their community leaders to let them know, it's NEVER too late. Even one step forward is better than where they were. Better for them, and better from the family and friends who love them. The really heart-wrenching reality is that addiction doesn’t just affect the one with the affliction. The ripple effects of addiction wipe out everyone in its path, children, spouses, families, and friends. No one who cares is left untouched, often resulting in the need for some type of recovery of their own. |
