Lies Addiction Tells You

Addiction is often described as a master of deception, convincing you that it's the only way to handle your problems or make it through the day.  Addiction can distort your reality by making promises of relief, happiness, or escape, while actually deepening your feelings of guilt, shame, and dependence.

The Lies Addiction Tells Can Sound Like:

  • You can't cope without me
  • Just one more won't hurt
  • Nobody cares about you
  • You can't do anything right
  • You've made too many mistakes in the past to make amends
  • You've done so many horrible things, you don't deserve a better life
  • Without addiction, you will feel this pain forever
  • There's no hope
These lies, and more just like them, mask the true consequences of continuing your addiction.  These deceptive messages can make it difficult to recognize the harm being done to you and your loved ones, leading to denial and rationalization.

By understanding how addiction manipulates thoughts and emotions, you can begin to challenge these falsehoods and seek healthier ways to cope and recover.
