Better for them, and better from the family and friends who love them. The really heart-wrenching reality is that addiction doesn’t just affect the one with the affliction. The ripple effects of addiction wipe out everyone in its path, children, spouses, families, and friends. No one who cares is left untouched, often resulting in the need for some type of recovery of their own. When communities choose to stand up for people in recovery, everyone benefits. Families become stronger, workplaces become more understanding, and neighborhoods become more compassionate. Supporting recovery is ultimately an act of hope: it says that people are more than their past, that healing is possible, and that every person deserves the chance to rebuild their life with dignity and support.
